REV. RICK SHERRIL
PASTOR

Pastor Rick is originally from Northern California and grew up as a church kid in a Lutheran congregation in Elk Grove, CA. He served 5 summers on staff at Mt. Cross Lutheran Camp in Felton, CA and solidified his call to ministry among the redwoods. After graduating from the University of California at Santa Cruz, he worked in the disk drive industry before migrating to St. Paul, MN to attend Luther Seminary. During his time in the Lutheran heartland, Pastor Rick volunteered at Open Arms delivering meals to people living with AIDS. He also studied in Zimbabwe and South Africa and discovered a deep love for mission work. Ordained in 1998, Pastor Rick served congregations in Salinas, CA and Cupertino, CA before accepting the call to the desert in 2009. His best life decision to date was to marry Angela and together they have two daughters. He continues to passionately root for Bay Area sports teams and his daughters in their many activities. Pastor Rick loves to preach, teach and joyfully experiment with new ways to make God’s love known.

Rev. Paul Nelson
Visitation Pastor

Rev. Paul Nelson joined Prince of Peace as Visitation and Teaching Pastor in 2015. A native of Tucson, AZ, Pastor Paul went to University of Arizona and Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. Pastor Paul enjoys traveling the world with his wife of 20 years, Nan Nelson. Together they have two children and 4 grandchildren.

I have considered the Prince of Peace community ‘home’ for the past ten years. During that time, I have served in many capacities at Prince of Peace: Pre-K teacher, two’s teacher, Assistant Director and now Director.I have a love and passion for working with children and their families. I feel blessed and humbled to have the opportunity to lead our amazing staff and support our children and families. I am a Scottsdale/Paradise Valley native and I have a deep love for this area. I have three beautiful daughters. As a family, we love spending time outdoors, going to movies, watching football and playing board games. When I have a minute to myself, I enjoy reading, crocheting, hiking and gardening. I look forward to many more years serving the Prince of Peace community!

Prince of Peace has a rich history of music in its 60+ years of history. I have been fortunate to have grown up in this congregation and be a part of the this ministry starting at a young age. Currently I direct our Voices of Praise choir, provide piano music and accompaniment, and look for ways to integrate this art in meaningful ways during worship. I enjoy seeking out others, both in our congregation and community, to share their time and talents through the voice of music.
